Creston is a village of about 180 people in the northeast corner of Platte County, Nebraska, 21.9 road miles and about 32 minutes from Columbus by county roads. Laid out in 1886 when the railroad came and incorporated in 1890, it was named for its high ground at about 1,620 feet and built up mainly by German families.

Farmsteads stand a mile apart, each with a windbreak of old redcedar and Scotch pine now dying of age and pine wilt. Yards run to silver maple, Siberian elm, hackberry and dead ash. Lots are big, so a call here is often a whole fence line, and there is no trip charge.
