St. Edward is a city of about 725 people in Boone County, Nebraska, 31.2 road miles and about 39 minutes northwest of Columbus on NE-39, in the Beaver Creek valley at about 1,670 feet. The townsite was bought from the Union Pacific in August 1871, and its post office went by Waterville from 1874.

In 1877 it was renamed for Father Edward Sorin, founder of Notre Dame, and it incorporated on October 6, 1884; a state marker calls it the only town of the name in the country. Creek bottoms hold cottonwood, walnut and willow, and the farms above keep redcedar and pine windbreaks, elms, maples and dead ash.
