A Little About Us

Wade Kucera grew up on a farm north of Platte Center and spent four seasons on a line-clearance crew before starting Platte Valley Tree Co. in 2016. We still work that way: every tree comes down in sections, the rigging is set before the saw starts, and a boulevard tree gets its city permit first.

Columbus sits where the Loup meets the Platte, on sandy river soil that does not hold a big root plate once a wet April turns windy. Cottonwoods, silver maples and Siberian elms are the trees that fail here, and the emerald ash borer has been working through the ash since it was found in town in 2021.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Columbus, NE?

Not for a tree on your own lot. A street tree on the boulevard or in a street island needs a Public Works permit, pulled by the property owner, and a replacement tree or payment afterward. Outside the city, check with your village office. We will walk you through it.

What happens to the debris?

We take it with us the same day unless you want the firewood. Columbus does not allow burning yard waste inside city limits, and outside town a brush pile needs a fire district permit, so a full removal is always a haul-off or chip job.
