Where We Work
Platte Valley Tree Co. is based in Columbus, Nebraska, where the Loup runs into the Platte, US-30 crosses US-81 and the Union Pacific main line runs through town. This county is where the truck parks at night, not a name added to a list.
The trees repeat across the whole area: cottonwoods along both rivers, silver maples and Siberian elms that split in July wind, redcedar and pine windbreaks dying of age and pine wilt, and green ash killed since the borer reached Columbus in 2021. Sandy river-bottom loam gives way to pivot-irrigated corn and soybean ground.
Besides the towns below, we work smaller places like Richland, Tarnov, Cornlea, Octavia, Rogers and Linwood. Every one gets the same crew, the same written estimate and the same east-central Nebraska price ranges.

Colfax County seat, 16.1 road miles and 22 minutes. The county-seat city east on US-30 along Shell Creek, the largest town we serve.
Merrick County, 19.5 road miles and 25 minutes. The US-30 village in the corner of Merrick County, less than half a mile north of the Platte.
Polk County, 20.8 road miles and 27 minutes. South on NE-92 near the eastern edge of Polk County, close to Nebraska's center of population.
Platte County, 21.8 road miles and 27 minutes. Up US-81 in the open farm country of northern Platte County, under the steeple of St. Francis church.
Platte County, 21.9 road miles and 32 minutes. The small village in the county's northeast corner, on some of its highest ground; a back-road drive.
Nance County, 21.9 road miles and 28 minutes. Out NE-22 on the Loup where the Loup Power canal begins, on the site of the old U.S. Indian Industrial School.
Butler County, 22.1 road miles and 28 minutes. On NE-92 in the flat pivot country between David City and Shelby.

Colfax County, 26.3 road miles and 40 minutes. The NE-91 village in the rolling northwest corner of Colfax County, reached by county roads.
Polk County seat, 27.5 road miles and 35 minutes. The county-seat city on NE-92 and US-81, rebuilt after its 1895 fire.
Madison County seat, 30.7 road miles and 36 minutes. The county-seat city at the far end of our US-81 run north, on Union Creek in northeast Nebraska.
Boone County, 31.2 road miles and 39 minutes. Out NE-39 in the Beaver Creek valley, the northwest end of our list.
Colfax County, 31.7 road miles and 47 minutes. The Czech town in northern Colfax County near the NE-15 and NE-91 junction; the slowest drive we make.
Platte County, 33.7 road miles and 40 minutes. The NE-91 village at the north edge of Platte County near Shell Creek, still our home county.
Polk County, 34.3 road miles and 42 minutes. The Swede Capital of Nebraska, with brick streets around its square, the south end of our route.
Nance County seat, 38.2 road miles and 49 minutes. The county-seat city where the Cedar River meets the Loup, the farthest west we go.
