Silver Creek, NE: Tree Work on the Platte Bottoms

Silver Creek is a village of about 320 people in the far northeast corner of Merrick County, Nebraska, 19.5 road miles and about 25 minutes west of Columbus on US-30. Platted with the Union Pacific in 1866, it sits less than half a mile north of the Platte, just east of NE-39, and takes its name from a creek known early for clear water.

This is Platte-bottom tree work: big cottonwoods along the river and the creek, walnut and willow in the wettest ground, silver maple and Siberian elm in the village. The sandy loam drains fast but lets go of a large root plate in a windy May. It is the westernmost stop on our US-30 run.

Why a Columbus Crew Comes to Silver Creek

Why Folks in Silver Creek Call Us

Twenty-Five Minutes West on US-30

Silver Creek is the far end of our westbound run past Duncan, and we make it without a trip charge. Jenna pairs it with Genoa and Duncan work so the estimate date stays quick.

River Cottonwoods That Lean

The cottonwoods along the Platte and the creek grow tall and heavy in sandy ground and lean toward the water and the light. We rig them down from the dry side, in sections, and keep the chip truck on firm ground.

Fast-Draining, Shallow-Rooted

Platte-bottom loam is easy grinding and easy digging, which is why the big trees here root wide and shallow. We look for lifted soil at the root flare before storm season and tell you plainly what it means.

Village Office, Merrick County Ground

Silver Creek is an incorporated village with its own ordinances, so a tree over a village street means a call to the village office. A tree on your own lot is your decision; outside the village, the rural fire district issues burn permits, or we chip and haul.
